Squarespace features we love (and you will, too)

It’s the season, folks! November is that time of year when we set aside all the bad and start filtering through to highlight the good. Life can get in the way, and we might feel crumbled under a pile of responsibilities, deadlines, projects and commitments. But truth be told, there are so many things one can be thankful for today. Whether that’s in your professional life or relationships, being thankful can help boost your confidence and overall life worldview.

Squarespace features we love (and you will, too)

It’s not a secret that there is a constant online discussion regarding Squarespace disadvantages, especially in comparison to other platforms. Nonetheless, for the last 3 years, we have helped thousands of creatives update or build their site on Squarespace. While doing that, we have pushed the design and functionality limits. And limits there are plenty. However, we have learned to appreciate some of Squarespace features that make building a website easy and fun.

These are our 5 favorite Squarespace 7.0 features that we love and are super thankful about.

Duplicating Sections/Page blanks

This Squarespace feature is a lifesaver! In order to create custom layouts in Squarespace and easily replicate them, stacked Indexes and slug ID’s are something that we rely on A LOT. Being able to duplicate pages, drag them around and use them across other Index pages has not only optimized our process but also helped our users easily create new pages or edit existing ones, without any code knowledge, or need to worry about styling not being applied.

Filtering by category/tag in Summary blocks

This feature has become an indispensable tool in our arsenal when we are creating design kits and building custom websites. We have taken full advantage of it when working on The Good Trade website, where the main chunk of content is posts. How do you present the same type of content but differentiate it by topics? Use a summary block and filter through tags or categories. Use a different Summary block layout and make your pages even more dynamic.

Anchoring within sections inside an Index

Anchoring can make your website feel more intentional in how content is presented and how your users experience the page flow. Especially if you have a lot to share but don’t want to create dozens of pages, use the following code #the-section-slug to link users to a specific section on the site. Or even better - lead them to connect with you through strong, clickable call to actions.

Ability to disable Google Indexation per section or page

Squarespace has been upping its SEO game for a while now, since that was one of the biggest areas it has been struggling in comparison with WordPress, for example. We love that we can disable indexation for separate sections within an Index, as well as control the SEO descriptions and titles for pages.

The spacers of them all

We can not be thankful enough to the spacer blocks. First of all, we use the 12 space grid as a guideline when creating our design kits on canvas. Coming up with any original layout inside Squarespace becomes a piece of cake when we use spacers to structure elements around the 12 space grid.
