No Fear. Imperfection is Beautiful with The Rural Workshop

No Fear. Imperfection is Beautiful with The Rural Workshop

"Creativity is not just about knowing the technique or how a camera works...you need to free your mind, stay open to new ideas without fear. "

The folks behind The Rural Workshop always try to keep an open mind to what might be possible and avoid locking into preconceived ideas or existing styles. It sometimes eventuates that you, as a photographer, are inspired from the existing industry styles but, at first you need to fully explore the possibility that your brand can create its own paradigm within the industry. This is the ultimate goal of The Rural folks - for you to be a teacher and a student both at the same time, and this is what they strive to achieve for the attendees and friends participating in the workshop. Find out more about this unparelleled workshop happening in 2018 - you still have time to book your sweet spot!

1. Who is behind The Rural Workshop project? How did the idea appear?

We’re two photographers behind this project. Cristina Ruiz and Roberto Ramos.

As the guys stated "The Rural started 7 years ago in a tiny village in the center of Spain. But in these past 3 years it has grown so much that we decided to move it to a campsite in Santa Susanna, Barcelona. We want to keep growing as a community, to strengthen old and new friendships and live new magical experiences."

It began as a small gathering of friends and now it’s almost an entire week to live together, share our passion for photography and engage with your creative side.

Now, The Rural is the biggest camp for photographers and videographers in Europe.

2. What differentiates The Rural amongst all the other existing workshops?

It’s not just about the differences, it’s more what we want to contribute with. The Rural started 7 years ago; we all slept in the same room in sleeping bags that we had to pick up next morning. Same room to sleep and for the talks and keynotes. The day was really long, we went out to take some photos, we edited and talked about them at night, and after that some drinks at the only bar in the tiny village we stayed. We believe in creativity, inspiration doesn’t come while seating in a chair just listening someone else. It doesn’t come from perfection, it comes from practicing, anywhere, anytime. The key is sharing, don’t have fear to be creative and share. The Rural, 4 days of freedom, we hate perfection and we just don’t care about other workshops' perfection. If you’re a photographer or a videographer you need to be free, creative and anarchic…that’s the way the Rural must be. We obviously have a schedule for workshops, talks and activities, but we allow a lot of time to enjoy that freedom.

3. What your attendees will take away from the workshop?

That’s quite subjective. Our motto is: we all are teacher, we all are students. So, you decide what you take away. Our advice: come, open your mind, create, share and that’s all you need to fulfill your expectations. Learn and make friends from all over the world.

4. Why a good website is important for a workshop project?

For us a good website is crucial, a peculiar site, with amazing graphics and accessible to everyone, out of the standards of other workshops. The image you show explains a lot about your philosophy. We had very clear idea who we wanted to create that site, and seeing the final result we couldn’t have taken a better decision. People are crazy about the new look and the website. We’re a crazy camp, just as we are, you know hahaha.

We absolutely invite everyone to join us for this event, amazing speakers and amazing attendees. People coming from all over the world, willing to share 4 days living in this camp. We want to de-structure your mind, feel free and be creative; no fear, no judgments. Welcome to The Rural.

We, at Squaremuse, are always inspired by the creatives with whom we interact and are lucky to connect and work. And together with the folks behind The Rural Workshop we've created something more than a custom website - it's an experience - the Rural engaged us to build a distinct online voice that would rightly distinguish it from the rest. We created a website, which establishes standards from brand messaging to visual design, inspired by the folks' and workshop's unique and wild core.

We truly believe this is one of a kind workshop and you should definitely attend and grasp all of the training, shootings, keynotes - where you will give and receive, stay up all night, drink wine and beer, hug each other, smile, cry… it's something that will last forever!

Truly Yours,

Squaremuse Team
